2024 Rejecting Our Own: The Politics of Migrant Exclusion by Coethnic Citizens book CV OA GS

19Rejecting Our Own: The Politics of Migrant Exclusion by Coethnic Citizens asks why we sometimes20observe solidarity from minoritized citizens towards migrants who share ethnic or cultural ties, but other21times, rejection and hostility. I argue that when political elites stigmatize migrants as dangerous, minori-22tized citizens will reject coethnic migrants for fear of being “migrantized” themselves.

Compensated Inclusion: Refugees, Redistribution, and Electoral Politics in the Global South Cambridge Elements in Political Economy book CV OA GS

24Compensated Inclusion: Refugees, Redistribution, and Electoral Politics in the Global South (with Shun-25ing Ge and Guy Grossman) Drawing on two decades of electoral, economic, and textual data from26Uganda, Africa’s largest refugee host, we theorize that when inclusive refugee-hosting policies are paired27with credible investment in the communities that host refugees, inclusion need not produce an electoral28backlash. Under contract at Cambridge Elements in Political Economy.

30Dignity and the Decision to Migrate, Where to Move, and When to Return (with Margaret Peters) seeks31to understand how individuals in insecure situations make decisions whether to migrate, where to settle32if they decide to leave, and when to return home. While others have highlighted economic and safety33considerations, this project focuses on dignity concerns.
